1-2. Arjuna said, O my dear krishana, I want to know about nature (Prakrti), Purusa (enjoyer) and the field and knower of the field and knowledge and the object of knowledge.

The Supreme personality of Godhead said, O son of Kunti, this body is called the field and one who knows this body is called the knower of the field.

3. O Arjuna you should understand that I am also the knower of all bodies and to understand this body., its knower is called knowledge. That is my opinion.

13Each individual soul has his individual capacity for lording over material nature. There are different bodies. But the supreme soul is present in them as the controller. Krishana is the supersoul in everybody apart from individual soul, Body is the field of Kurukshetra, one who knows about the body is called knower. The body is controlled by the soul and soul is controlled by supersoul i.e. Krishana. As soon as the control of soul is over on the body, the body is useless and has no value. Body has energy from soul and soul has energy from super soul.

4. Now please hear, My brief description of this field of activity and how it is constituted, what its changes are, whence it is produced, who is knower of the field of activities and what is his influence.

5. That knowledge of the field of activities and of knower of activities is described by various sages in various vedic writings. It is written in Vedic sutra with all reasons with cause and effect.

6-7. The five great elements, false ego, intelligence, the unmanifested, the ten senses and the mind, the five sense objects desire, hatred, happiness, distress, the aggregate - all these are considered in summary to be the field of activity and its interaction.

According to Vendante Sutra, the components of this world are earth, water, fire, air and ether. Then There is false ego, intelligence and the unmanifested stage of three modes of nature. Then there are five senses for acuiring knowledge i.e. eyes, ears, nose tongue and smell. Then there are five working senses voice, legs, hands, anus and genitals. Above the senses there is mind, which is within and which can be called the sense within. Therefore, including the mind there are eleven senses altogether. Then there are five object senses, smell, taste, form, touch and sound. Now the aggregate of these twenty four elements is called the field of activities. If one ,understands these twenty four subjects then he can understand field activity.

Then there are desire, hatred, happiness and distress which are elements in the gross body, There are changes in body. These changes are six in number. The body is born, it grows, it stays, it produces by-products, then it begins to decay, and at the last stage it vanishes. However, the knower of the field of activity is different who is all powerful God.

8-12. Dispassion (Humility) towards the senses, absence of egoism (pridelessness) non violence, tolerance simplicity, apprroaching a bonafide spiritual master, cleanliness, steadiness, self control, renuniciation of the objects of sense gratification, absence of false ego the perception of the evil of birth, death, old age and disease, detachment, freedom from entanglement with children, wife, home and the rest, evenmindedness amid pleasant and unpleasant events, constant and unalloyed devotion to Me, aspiring to live in a solitary place, detached from the general mass of people, accepting the importance of self realisation and philosophical search for the Absolute Truth All these I declare to be knowledge and besides this whatever may be is ignorance.

13. I shall now explain the knowledge, knowing which you will taste the eternal Brahman the spirit, beginingless and subordinate to Me lies beyond the cause and effect of this material world.

14. Everywhere are His hands and legs, His eyes, heads and faces and He has ears everywhere. In this way the supersoul exists pervading everything.

15. The supersoul is original source of all senses, He is without senses He is unattached, although he is unattached, although he is the maintainer of all living beings. He is creator of modes of nature and at the same time. He is the master of all the modes of material nature.

He knows everything, but no one knows Him. It is said that the supersoul has no legs, but he can travel. throughout space because He has spiritual legs has eyes, legs, hands and everything else and because we are part and parcel of the supreme Lord, we also have these things. We cannot see His form nor we can understand the personality of Godhead.

16. The Supreme Truth exists outside and inside of all living beings, the moving and the non-moving. Because he is subtle. He is beyond the power of the material senses to see or to know. Although far far away. He is also near to all.¬

17. Although the supersoul appears to be divided among all beings. He is never divided. He is situated as one. Although he is maintainer of every living entity. It is to be understood that He develops all. Supersoul is residing both outside and inside of every living entity. He is present in both the spiritual and material worlds.

Although He is far, far away still He is near to us. But we cannot see Him. But one who has purified his mind and senses by Krishana consciousness in devotional service can see Him constantly.

18. He is source of light in all luminous objects. He is beyond the darkness of matter and is unmanifested. He is knowledge. He is the object of knowledge and He is the goal of knowledge. He is situated in everybody's heart.
19. Thus the field of activity (the body) knowledge and knowable have been summarily described by Me. Only my devotees can understand this thoroughly and can attain My nature.

20. Material nature and the living entities (bodies) should be understood to be beginningless. Their transformations and the modes of matter are products of material nature.

21. The nature is said to be cause of all maternal causes and effects. Whereas the living entities is the cause of the various sufferings, and enjoyments in this world.

22. The living entity in material nature thus follows the ways of life enjoying the three modes of nature. This is due to his association with that material nature. Thus he meets with Good and evil amongst variousspecies.

23. Yet in this body there is another, a enjoyer who is the Lord the Supreme exists as the oversear and permitter and transcendental proprietor who who is known as supersoul.

The Lord always gives instructions to the living soul from within and from outside. He tries to convince the living entity that his activities in the material field are not conducive to real happiness. Just give it up and turn your faith to Me. Then you will be happy. An intelligent man who places his faith in God, begins to advance towards a blissful eternal life of knowledge.

24. One who understands this philosopy concerning material nature, the living entity and the interaction of the mode of nature is sure to attain liberation. He will not take birth here again, regardless of his present position.

Clear understanding of material nature, the supersoul, the individual soul and their inter-relationship makes one eligible to become liberated. This is the result of knowledge.

25. Some perceive the super soul within them through meditation, others through the cultivation of knowledge and still others through working without fruitive desires.

26. Again there are those who, although not conversant in spiritual knowledge, begin to worship the supreme person upon hearing about Him from others. Because of their tendency to hear from authorities they also transcend the path of birth and death.

All men should take advantage of hearing from realized soul and they will be able to understand everything. If one is fortunate enough to take shelter of a pure devotee hear from him about self realisation and follow his footsteps he will gradually attain the position of pure devotee.

27. O Chief of the Bharatas - know that whatever you see in existence both the moving and the non-moving is only a combination of the field of activities and the knower of the field.

28. One who sees the supersoul accompany the individual soul in all bodies and who understands that neither the soul nor the supersoul within the destructible body is ever destroyed actually sees.

29. One who sees the supersoul equally present every where, in every living being does not degrade himself by his mind. Thus he approaches the transcendental destination. When the mind turns to the supersoul one becomes advanced in spiritual understanding.

30. One who can see that all activities are performed by the body, which is created of material nature, and sees that the self does nothing actually sees.

31. When a sensible man ceases to see different identities due to different material bodies and he sees how beings are expanded everywhere, he attains to the Brahman conception.

After the destruction of material body the spirit soul is one. The spirit soul due to contact with material nature gets different types of bodies.

32. Those with the vision of eternity can see that the imperishable soul is transcedental, eternal and beyond the modes of nature. Despite contact with the material body, O Arjuna, the soul neither does anything nor is entangled.

A living entity appear to be born because of the birth of the material body. Soul is not born still it is situated in the material body. Soul cannot be destroyed. By nature he is full of bliss. He does not engage himself in any material activities, therefore, the activities performed due to his contact with material bodies do not entangle him.

33. The sky due to its subtle nature, does not mix with anything, although it is all pervading. Similarly the soul situated in Brahman vision does not mix with the body, though situated in that body.

It is impossible to see with material eyes how the living body is in contact with this body and how he is out of it after the destruction of the body. No one can ascertain this.

34. O son of Bharatas, as the Sun alone illuminates all this universe, so does the living entity one within the body illuminates the entire body by consciousness.

Thus consciousness is the proof of the presence of soul as Sun shine or light is the proof of the presence of the Sun. When the soul is present in the body there is consciousness allover the body and as soon as the soul goes from the body there is no consciousness. This can be understood by any intelligent person.
The consciousness of one particular body does not share that of another body. But the super soul which is situated in all bodies as a friend of the soul is conscious of all bodies. That is the difference between supreme consciousness and individual consciousness.

35. Those who see with eyes of knowledge the difference between the body and the knower of the body and can also understand the process of liberation from bondage in material nature attain to the supreme Goal.

One should know the distinction between body, owner of the body and the supersoul. One should recognise the process of liberation as described in 8 to 12. Then one can go to the supreme destination.

This body is matter. It can be analyzed with its twenty four elements. There is soul and then their is super soul .The material world is working by the confirmation of the soul and twenty four elements. One who can understand all these things can be eligible for transfer of the spiritual world.¬
